Search on for Korean War vets

There is an effort underway to contact all the remaining Korean War Veterans. Next year is the 60th anniversary of the start of this war. Canadians played a major part in freeing South Korea after the North's invasion in 1950. By land, sea and in the air some 34,000 Canadians served during that conflict. It is estimated that only about 10,000 are still alive. They know the whereabouts of at least 5,000. They want to make contact with all Korean War Veterans.

All Legions have been asked to put the word out for those still alive, that the Korean Veterans Association wishes to have their names, addresses and phone number. There are special events planned for next year. So I am asking that all Canadian Korean War Veterans please contact me at the Legion so I can collect the information to pass on. There is a project underway also by the South Korean Government to honour you and a national event in Brampton, Ont at the Korean War Memorial on July 27th 2010. As I get more details I will past them on.

To all Veterans there has been an effort underway by Veteran Affairs Canada since Jan 2008. Do you have a ringing in your ears? Do you have to ask people to repeat what they are saying? This is a direct result of your service and your exposure to loud noises from weapon firing, explosions, and the running of engines of all types. See your doctor and request a hearing test. If there is evidence of hearing loss then you qualify to apply for a pension for this. If you do, contact the Legion so I can get you setup to apply with Veteran Affairs Canada. It takes about 6 months before they get back to you after you send in the paper work.

Events:

We are having a Mystery Miles Road Rally and Scavenger hunt. It happens on Oct 17th. You can sign up at the Legion, Home Hardware or call Cheryl at 519-627-8500. There is an all you can eat spaghetti dinner. Rally and dinner is $12.00 Kids under 12 yrs are $5.00 or the dinner only $7.00. Sounds like a fun filled day to me.

Lest We Forget.
