The Wallaceburg Tartans football team lost the annual Bronze Boot game 17-14 to the Ursuline Lancers in front of a large crowd Saturday in Wallaceburg.
"I think we lost the game in a three minute stretch," said Tartan head coach Rob MacLachlan.
Just before halftime the Tartans gave up a pair of long passes to set up Lancer points.
The Tartans were also hurt by a pair of turnovers.
In Wallaceburg's first five games they hadn't turned the ball over at all.
"That cost us nine points," MacLachlan said.
Brandon Donkers scored both of the Tartan touchdowns. He scored one on a long kickoff return and the other on a long touchdown run.
A fifth-year player, MacLachlan said Donkers has been a leader for the Tartans.
"Certainly we're proud of him," MacLachlan said.
The Tartans (2-4) have a bye week this week and will have to wait to see if they make the playoffs. If Chatham-Kent beats Ursuline then the Tartans are out of the playoffs. If Ursuline wins, then they will face Wallaceburg in the semifinals.
